"I
know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God? If he will
contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand. He is wise in
heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and
hath prospered? Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which
overturneth them in his anger. Which shaketh the earth out of her place,
and the pillars thereof tremble. Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth
not; and sealeth up the stars. Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and
treadeth upon the waves of the sea. Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades,
and the chambers of the south. Which doeth great things past finding out;
yea, and wonders without number. " Job 9:2-10 -The Old Testament (King
James Version)
The modern
UFO frenzy has led to some interesting theories regarding alien beings
and their power over humanity. Recently, I have heard respected leaders
of the Christian faith speak out on this issue. They seem most confident
that these "beings" are spiritual in nature and demons or angels. Most
disturbing is the fact that some very influential and knowledgeable TV
personalities have come to the conclusion that Satan is the ruler of not
only this earth but space as well. They use such verses as those below
to prove their point:
As imperfect
beings with limited knowledge, we must be very careful about what we ascribe
to God and Satan. We must not think that we will ever know all of God's
wisdom and authority in creation. The Bible was written as a spiritual
rescue manual for our race and not a scientific guide to all the secrets
of the universe. We need to learn the lessons from our short history. How
some of the great scientific advances of the past (Copernicus and Galileo
most obvious) were hindered and many times squelched by the religious authority
of the day.
Now
there is no doubt in my mind that there exists a spiritual realm and there
are beings aligned with God and Satan in this spiritual realm. A simple
look at humanity is suffice to prove this. According to the Bible, Satan
fell from a most exalted position in heaven and with him fell some of the
angelic beings (Revelation 12:9). However, God in no way gave authority
to Satan and his rebellious forces to conquer the heavens!
"Thus
saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool:
where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my
rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have
been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is
poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." Isaiah 66:1-2
-The Old Testament (King James Version)
The truth
of the matter is that those who ascribe such authority to Satan and his
forces do so out of ignorance of God's system of government. Since the
creation of moral agents (those beings with the ability to choose between
good and evil) God has allowed these beings, whether from earth or the
heavens, to ultimately decide their destiny. Those who seek virtue and
truth conform to God's authority and grace. Those who seek selfishness
and glory conform to Satan and his rebellion. There seems to be no other
way of government for beings with free wills. God in the form of the most
Loving Creator and Parent of the Universe set it so. We as human creators
and parents should understand. Although we raise our children with all
our hopes and cares, we know that we cannot force them to love and respect
us. Ultimately, they must decide to conform or rebel against our wills.
Let
there be no mistake regarding the fate of those who rebel against God and
His forces. Their rebellion will one day be judged! So then, let it be
understood that there exist other beings (besides human and angelic) in
the universe that also see the coming judgment of this planet and wonder!
"For
we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together
until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits
of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the
adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. For we are saved by hope:
but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet
hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience
wait for it." Romans 8:22-25 -The New Testament
